Comprised of three structures and a shared courtyard, a family’s remote Bear River Range getaway is as compelling as the scenic setting that surrounds it.

The homeowner wanted a place where he and his family could escape the demands of the digital world—a remote retreat where simplicity and modern design prevails. Imbue Design responded with a low-sitting compound formed by three separate structures that enclose a central courtyard on three sides. These buildings not only perform as windbreaks in the open landscape, but they strategically frame breathtaking views and promote the deliberate living and connection to nature the client craved.

The main residence feature a modern kitchen that opens to the main living area. A custom fireplace, crafted from hot-rollled steel, separates the living area from the entry and the master suite beyond. A second bedroom suite occupies the opposite end of the structure. Broad windows connect this building to the central courtyard and views on every side.

A second structure houses separate guest quarters replete with view-laden living, sleeping, bunkroom and lux bathroom spaces. Floor-to-ceiling windows draw light and views inside, visually expanding the interior space of this structure.

A third structure performs as a utilitarian storage building that includes a garage. Accordion metal panels cover all of the structures in dimensional cladding, connecting them materially while creating “visual rhythm,” says Chris Talvy, one of three Imbue Design principals.
