For 75 years, the Salt Lake Parade of Homes has been showcasing the finest in Utah’s design and architecture. This year, the state’s top builders and designers introduced 17 impressive homes with designs ranging from traditional charm to sleek contemporary. We toured some of the projects at the 2021 Parade, and snapped some inspirational photos along the way. Check out some of our favorite design details.Â
Innovative design group Ezra Lee Design + Build offered an alpine oasis in their Big Cottonwood project. The outdoor area had no shortage of lounging opportunities, including a shaded pool deck dressed in relaxed furnishings. Overhead, a wood-planked ceiling delivers warmth while drawing a connection to the home’s forested surroundings.
While each room in the Ezra Lee home offered an element of surprise, among our favorites was the kitchen. Built-in cabinetry fostered an open-floor flow with seamlessly blended appliances. Exposed shelves display elegant glassware while providing quick access to the espresso machine below. The waterfall island anchors the room and visually separates it from the living space beyond.
On the second floor, a statement fixture adds texture to the otherwise neutral palette. Walls of windows flood the home with light and offer glimpses of the Wasatch Mountains beyond.Â
To celebrate the homeowners’ European heritage, Paragon Custom Construction carefully incorporated timeless materials and antique finishes in each room of this traditional home. The quant office is dressed in floor-to-ceiling sage green paired with golden details.
In the living room, a well-lit gallery wall adds interest and charm. The gilded frames emulate hues found throughout the home, fostering a sense of cohesion in every room.
On the second floor, a child’s bedroom features historic details. A pair of brass light fixtures deliver an antique charm, while the verdant headboards create a relaxing ambiance.
The team at Establish Design dressed the mudroom in a deep green and incorporated watercolor-styled shades on each window. When illuminated with natural light, the intricate designs on each shade detail a story of the past while furthering the historical feel of the entire home.
Wright Homes combines timeless style with organic simplicity in a South Jordan home. The sizable kitchen is dressed in warm wood textures and powder blue cabinetry. Azure subway tiles add an extra layer of depth to the space while open shelving displays charming decor.
The dining room overlooks a jewel-toned pool, but it’s the ceiling that takes center-stage. White beams are arranged in a star-like pattern, adding both depth and interest to the modest room.
In the master bedroom, wooden elements deliver an organic ease. On an accent wall, shiplap is arranged both horizontal and vertically. The warm tones create an air of coziness while accentuating the height of the room.
The basement boasts a variety of entertainment opportunities, including this playful kids room. A built-in playhouse features a functional door and light switch, while wall moulding is modeled after a white picket fence.Â
In their Forte build, Symphony Homes designs livable spaces that are as functional as they are appealing. In the living room, a curved mid-century sofa adds a pop of color. The oversized hung art draws out cool tones throughout the room.
The extensive kitchen doesn’t shy away from counter space. A double island offers both casual bar seating and a preparation space. Above both islands, tubular pendants add further symmetry.
Taking a step beyond built-in cabinetry is a hidden pantry. The concealed doors blend seamlessly with the kitchen design and open to reveal a sizable storage room.
In a contemporary home by La Fucina, European charm meets American luxury. The master bedroom features a sloped ceiling dressed in warm wood planks. The bold angle adds drama to the bedroom while keeping with the home’s contemporary design.
Berry hues add an artistic flair to the office room. The dark walnut bench area creates a stark contrast to the white bookshelves on either side.
In the master bathroom, a round mirror hangs on a concrete-textured vanity. A modern sconce with globe-shaped bulbs illuminates the room while adding interest.
