Call it a warm welcome. In the scenic Hurricane landscape, a new home greets owners Cahlan and Kim Sharpe to their family’s idyllic retreat designed and created by a team of Utah pros. The homeowners craved a clean-lined contemporary style teaming with many Spanish Colonial elements including arches, white walls and carved wooden doors. As our feature Escape Plan proves, they got all of this— and more. The following photos extend beyond the printed story’s shots and showcase more of the Utah vacation home surrounded by the breathtaking desert.

Cahlan and Kim Sharpe’s new Hurricane home serves as a sunny escape from their main home in Orem. Inouye Design, Markay Johnson Construction and interior designer Camille Kenyon of Milley Design worked with the Sharpes to create the family’s stylish, Spanish Colonial-inspired getaway.

In the great room, a spacious living area opens to the kitchen and nearby dining area. A mix of comfortable, earth-toned furnishings and natural wood tones deliver a laid-back, contemporary vibe to the space. “A lot of Spanish-style homes are filled with heavily carved, dark mahogany pieces, but we wanted something softer, more natural and contemporary,” designer Camille Kenyon explains.

The living area’s custom built-ins boast arched forms and insets backed with richly stained oak. The understated fireplace features a bare oak mantle and a hearth fashioned from Calcutta Del Rey quartz.

Simple glass globe pendents illuminate the kitchen while a large, wicker light delivers organic texture and a modern form to the dining room. Barstools line the kitchen’s serving island crafted by Aspen Mills. It features a waterfall design formed from Cascade quartzite.
