There’s no mystery to why Utah mountain homes fascinate us—their spectacular landscapes, their bold architecture and the many inspiring ways their interiors are designed to capture the essence of mountain living. Our recently featured home of Erik and Meg Roach, created by Ezra Lee Design + Build (ELD+B), is among the captivating hillside havens in Park City. Fortunately, there are more photos of these digs beyond those we shared in the printed story—here are some of our favorites.
“We pulled the home’s entry down, so that it didn’t feel exposed or up on the street,” says Ezra Lee, principal of Ezra Lee Design + Build. The Park City home boasts simple yet powerful forms, including a wing-like porte cochère and clean-lined shapes that compose the structure as it steps down its sloped site.
In the entry, a steel door and ceiling cloud visually link the welcoming space to the adjoining great room where the same material clads a fireplace’s monumental form. Walls of fiberglass-reinforced panels resemble cast limestone, indoors and out.
The great room’s towering fireplace, faced in steel panels, soars to a sloped 19-foot ceiling clad in lightly stained cedar. Grouped pendant lights are from Crate & Barrel.
As seen from the great room, the open kitchen and dining areas are flooded with natural light and delightful design details that include a cedar tray ceiling, double islands, modern pendant lights and a contrasting palette of dark and light.
A custom, 10-foot-tall water feature fills a niche between the entry and great room area. The wall’s limestone-look panels are created from a fiberglass-reinforced material.
To connect the dining room to a large outdoor deck, the team installed a wall of glass pocket doors that disappear into the wall to create an expansive opening.
A broad deck expands the home’s dining area to a spacious outdoor living area surrounded by mountain views.
The interior is painted with White Heron by Sherwin-Williams. “It’s a little warmer than we normally paint a contemporary interior, but the homeowner like the look and feel,” explains Landon Taylor, ELD+B head of design. The color provides a fresh backdrop for the kitchen’s organic wood tones and dark painted accents.
The lower level is very open, clean-lined and designed for gathering and entertaining. It includes an open-concept theater, a golf simulator space as well as a private music theater, bar and game room. A couple of guest suites and a bunk room complete the mix.
Large-format porcelain tiles ground the master bathroom, where a freestanding tub is anchored by a teak deck that steps down to a glass-enclosed shower. A pair of round mirrors by RH reflect the room’s light-filled space. Arabescato Pental Quartz tops the double vanity.
On the back of the home, an outdoor staircase connects the upper deck to a lower patio furnished with a large hot tub and open lounge areas.
