Photo Friday: Home for the Holidays at Quarry Mountain

With the Thanksgiving holidays coming up, people are making distinctively 2020 plans. Nothing this year, it seems, is typical. Now the CDC is urging us to give up traveling and stay home for Thanksgiving. 

I would think it would be quite wonderful to open a big glass swivel door and step into this warmly inviting home to be part of a holiday celebration. The location is at the toe of Quarry Mountain in Park City. AMB Design (Anne-Marie Barton) completed the interiors with the firm’s customary attention to details, Upwall Design (Michael Upwall) was the architect, and Steve Dubell Construction Group, consistently a master of materials, built the home.

The entry leads into the glass-enclosed living area with a stone fireplace anchoring the space. The views are to the pastures and quiet countryside, a part of Park City few realize is located so close to the resort.

A second family area is in the main L-shaped open plan with its own fireplace just off the kitchen. 

The kitchen has a double island, sleek cabinetry, and doors that open to the patio that surrounds the pool. The kitchen office is convenient and I’m certain with small busy children, it helps keep the busy household organized. 

With thoughtful planning, the pantry is just around the corner from the kitchen. Open to the hallway, there isn’t a door, but it is out of sight in the open plan for staging the courses to be served at the island bar or dining room. 

A guest suite is on the main floor, and I found the proportions of the bathroom’s vanity especially pleasing. 

Wooden floating treads and glass lead upstairs.

The master bedroom’s floor-to-ceiling windows take in the surroundings. It’s a room that easily moves from day to night with the warm wooden paneled ceiling and the lustrous wallpaper.

The master bath is spacious and elegant in its forms and well-considered materials.

In making the photographs, I enjoyed how the tones of the changing fall leaves on nearby Quarry Mountain complemented the materials of the home and seemed so appropriate to the interiors. I rather think that if I return in a different season that the snow or the greens of spring would leave me with a similar impression.
