Local pros turn up the heat on laundry room design.
Whether they’re clean and contemporary or a take a more traditional spin, today’s laundry rooms prove even the hardest working spot in the home can serve up big style. For proof, check out this selection of some of our most recent faves:
Designer Doran Taylor used the same approach to designing a Park City home’s laundry as he did its nearby kitchen: It should be as beautiful as it is practical. As in the main kitchen, light-toned cabinets provide storage and timeless style to the laundry. A patterned, tiled backsplash creates a punch of pattern to the laundry space and two pairs of stacked appliances add big function to the space.

For her family’s contemporary Park City home, designer Julie Chahine had a clear directive: simplicity, harmony and functionality. Her laundry room embraces all three with a simple white palette, bright light, and built-in cabinetry replete with touch-release drawers that foster clean lines sans hardware. A floor-level cubby provides an out-of-the-way spot to stash baskets and totes. “Nothing feels too big or overdone,” says Chahine. “I didn’t want any wasted space.”In a contemporary St. George home, designers Ashley Johnson and Gregory Abbott simply painted an accent wall blue to give the light-toned, storage-rich room a shot of vibrant color. A built-in desk amps up the functionality of the room.

While remodeling a 1950s ranch-style residence, designer Gregg Hodson used custom cabinetry to provide generous storage and a hiding place for a washer and dryer in the home’s vestibule connecting the master bedroom, office and guest suite.
By simply choosing bright red appliances for the laundry room of this timelessly styled Park City home, builder John Ford added an element of surprising and color to an otherwise hushed décor.

Awash in chic, timeless style, a large Orem-area laundry room designed the team at Alice Lane Home Collection combines head-turning details including a blue and white cabinets, a custom island, wallcovering and a unique chandelier with functional basket cubbies, farmhouse sink, inset wall drying racks and built-in washer and dryers.
