Many of us have set records for sequential days eating at home and preparing our own meals. I lasted 12 weeks. It hasn’t been all bad: at our casa we have elevated the quality of our home cooking and actually tried some of the recipes that we have saved over the years. However, this week we stopped curbside for a takeaway meal from a restaurant and recognize how much we have missed meeting friends for lunch or dinner and tasting how another cook puts a different kind pleasure into eating.
The first two photos are of Oakville Grocery, a well-known place in California’s wine country to stop by and pick up the ingredients for a gourmet picnic with specialty cheeses and meats, local breads, and artisan olives and tapenades. Even though it’s take-away, the photos were taken well before the pandemic, so the staff isn’t wearing facial coverings or taking distance precautions.Â
Moving closer to home, the Avenues Proper’s neighborhood location makes it easy to combine a summer evening stroll with al fresco dining. Architecture by Connelly & Co. Architects (Will Connelly).
The Aerie Bar and Restaurant at Snowbird are favorite destinations after a day at the slopes. There aren’t many views that compare. As the season progresses and health restrictions ease, we can look forward to returning to our favorite spots like these.

Like most people I speak with, I’m eager to get out and resume life but taking it slowly and cautiously because of the increased rate of infections being reported. Hope you are all staying safe and well.
