Everyone knows that the residences surrounding Central Park in New York City aren’t affordable. A short five years after building Central Park, the neighboring properties soured in value to become exclusive. However, in Utah’s “Central Park” terms, the Central Park Condominium project I am talking is affordable housing.
Affordable housing is now becoming a national conversation, but the issue came to Park City’s attention many years before. Given single-family home prices of more than a million dollars, where do the people who are critical to the social fiber of the City live?
Central Park partially answers that question with 11 new residences that range in size from studios to two bedrooms. The Prospector location is along the rail trail with beautiful views of the resorts, and the homes all enjoy ample decks and outdoor living to take in the surrounding scenery. Protected parking is beneath the residences, and there is additional locker storage.
Designed by Park City architects, Gigaplex, the complex’s architectural detailing makes it a visual delight to photograph with playful connections of metal and concrete.
The interiors are all that the stylized entries promise. The open plans maximize flexible space for living. The wood floors throughout and wooden cabinets give the homes warmth. The quartz countertops, polished narrow horizontal backsplash tiles, and stainless appliances are something you would find in any fine Park City home.
The message I received is that beauty and graceful living can be made affordable. Also, it reiterates the importance of the people who will live in the homes and the jobs they do.
